Cedar bedding is known for giving small animals respiratory problems. Many people know that but most know nothing about the problems with pine. They figure it is a safe alternative for hamsters, but it is not. Pine bedding causes respiratory problems too, but not as much as cedar.

Fluffy bedding and any fabric should NOT be given to any small animals. The fibers in fluffy bedding and fabric can get caught on the rodent’s limbs, cutting off circulation. It can also, if eaten, clog up and hurt the rodent’s digestive system causing death or serious injury.

Wire Wheels -

Wire wheels, or runged wheels make it difficult for a rodent to run as much as they need to. Their legs get chaffed, and can get open cuts. Hamsters have delicate feet so it is better to have a solid surface.
