Aspen and biodegradable bedding is the best choice for hamster bedding. If you cannot get to these products pine [kiln-dried pine at that] would be the next best thing, but ONLY if you cannot get the others. Cedar should NEVER be used.

Nesting Material -

Regular unscented toilet paper is good to use for nesting material. Make sure to rip them up into small squares so it is easier for the hamster to make its nest.

Wheels -

Solid wheels are the best for hamsters and other rodents that have tails. If you have a wire wheel an inexpensive way to make it safe is to weave a strip of thin cardboard throughout the rungs.
